Comparison of remove-compute-restore and least squares modification of Stokes' formula techniques to quasi-geoid determination over the Auvergne test area

چکیده
The remove-compute-restore (RCR) technique for regional geoid determination implies that both topography and low-degree global geopotential model signals are removed before computation and restored after Stokes' integration or Least Squares Collocation (LSC) solution. The Least Squares Modification of Stokes' Formula (LSMS) technique not requiring gravity reductions is implemented here with a Residual Terrain Modelling based interpolation of gravity data. The 2-D Spherical Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and the LSC methods applying the RCR technique and the LSMSmethod are tested over the Auvergne test area. All methods showed a reasonable agreement with GPS-levelling data, in the order of a 3−3.5 cm in the central region having relatively smooth topography, which is consistentwith the accuracies of GPS and levelling. When a 1-parameter fit is used, the FFTmethod using kernel modification performs best with 3.0 cm r.m.s difference with GPS-levelling while the LSMS method gives the best agreement with GPS-levelling with 2.4 cm r.m.s after a 4-parameter fit is used. However, the quasi-geoid models derived using two techniques differed from each other up to 33 cm in the high mountains near the Alps. Comparison of quasi-geoid models with EGM2008 showed that the LSMS method agreed best in term of r.m.s.

Investigation of the Efficiency of Multi-purpose Gravity Network of NCC to Precise Geoid Determination, Case Study: Northwest Area of Iran
The national height system of Iran, orthomertic height, is referred to geoid as the vertical datum. Consequently, the geoid has many important applications in engineering. The slow, laborious and expensive orthomertic heights can be obtained in sufficient accuracy level from geodetic height (derived by GNSS observations) and a precise geoidal height. Over the past two decades, the gravity divis...
متن کاملComparisons of geoid models over Alaska computed with different Stokes' kernel modifications
Various Stokes kernel modification methods have been developed over the years. The goal of this paper is to test the most commonly used Stokes kernel modifications numerically by using Alaska as a test area and EGM08 as a reference model. The tests show that some methods are more sensitive than others to the integration cap sizes. For instance, using the methods of Vaníček and Kleusberg or Feat...

Using satellite altimetry derived mean sea level (MSL), geopotential coefficients in terms of ellipsoidal harmonics from recent satellite gravimetry missions, gravity potential values over a grid consisting of 33,486 points at global sea areas are computed and the mean value of the gravity potential at MSL is calculated as a new geoid’s potential value. In this way we have exactly followed the ...
متن کاملThe combination of GNSS-levelling data and gravimetric (quasi-) geoid heights in the presence of noise
We propose a methodology for the combination of a gravimetric (quasi-) geoid with GNSS-levelling data in the presence of noise with correlations and/or spatially varying noise variances. It comprises two steps: first, a gravimetric (quasi-) geoid is computed using the available gravity data, which, in a second step, is improved using ellipsoidal heights at benchmarks provided by GNSS once they ...

A Back Propagation Artificial Neural Network (BPANN) is a well-known learning algorithmpredicated on a gradient descent method that minimizes the square error involving the networkoutput and the goal of output values. In this study, 261 GPS/Leveling and 8869 gravity intensityvalues of Iran were selected, then the geoid with three methods “ellipsoidal stokes integral”,“BPANN”, and “collocation” ...
